As the Microsoft promotion engine gets revved up to push Windows 7 on the world, Dell Computer placed a half page advertisement in the New York Times (9/30/2009 Pg. A12).
Prominently placed in the lower right corner is a large "Upgrade Offer" graphic for Windows 7. It's a free upgrade if you order certain systems before 12/31/09. Okay, that's decent.
But, reach of the computers offered in the ad also contained the following description of the provide operating system:
"Genuine Windows Vista Business Bonus with Windows XP Professional downgrade pre-installed." (emphasis mine).
You can upgrade or downgrade. Your choice.
